DENGUE CONTROL IN JOHOR

ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALL MEMBERS,

RE: DENGUE CONTROL IN JOHOR

The state government of Johor has formed a Jawatankuasa Khas Tindakan Denggi Negeri Johor since 2014 in response to the alarming dengue cases nationwide. We are pleased to inform that Ir. John Cheah Kam Loong has been appointed by Y.A.B Menteri Besar Johor to sit in this special committee.

Subsequent to the 2nd International Conference on Dengue Situation and Its Control, jointly organized by IEM Southern Branch (IEM SB), Rotary International and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia on 20th September 2014, A Special IEM SB Committee for Dengue Control was formed to signify our involvement and participation in the programe.

The Committee is chaired by Ir John Cheah Kam Loong with Ir BK Teo, Ir Mohd Salehuddin Bin Abdul Hamid, Ir Derek Cheah Kong Yew, Ir Tay Tuck Puang, Ir Lam Ah Hang, Ir Dr Stephan Tan, Ir Goh Kae Wan, Ir Thayala Selvaduray and Ir Lim Chin Chuan as committee members. Past chairman Ir. Assoc.Prof. Hayati Binti Abdullah is the advisor.

Many activities have been carried out by our engineers trying to assist the government to bring to the attention of the public the awareness of keeping the environment clean and free from dengue breeding grounds.

IEM(SB) together with Rotary Clubs and other NGOs have successfully organised mega gotong-royong activities at several identified hot-spot areas around Johor Bahru and Pasir Gudang. The state government has recognized our Institution for these efforts with awards including the 'Anugerah Aspirasi Combi Harapan Negeri Johor 2015' and 'Warga Kota Prihatin'.

Also recently the state government has asked IEM SB to request our members and engineers to help and ensure that all their construction sites are free from stagnant water which are real potential breeding grounds for the aedes mosquitoes.

This IEM SB Special Committee will continue with its efforts to play active roles to help the government to eradicate dengue for the good of the community and would like to appeal to all engineers to continue to support and contribute to these efforts.

“Bersama-sama Kami Membanteras Denggi”. Together we will show that 'Engineers Do Care'

Ir. Hj Mohd Khir Muhammad FIEM PEng
