Despite the Global Automotive Roadmap adapted by our National Automotive Policy 2014 that charted towards electric vehicles in year 2030 and fuel-cell vehicles in 2040, diesel vehicles may still be relevant for transportation and logistics in our country. However, technology development must be made in order to move along or comply with the energy efficient vehicle guideline and the stringent exhaust emission standard. Moving towards the same direction, a concept of diesel-CNG dual fuel vehicle was materialized in a 2.5L common rail engine 4x4 pickup truck. The dual fuel vehicle has passed Puspakom inspection and approved by JPJ to be roadworthy. This talk will be a sharing session aimed at academicians, researchers, practicing engineers and to anyone who desires to know the fundamental concept, the research and development work, the experimental results, potential fuel cost savings, other benefits and challenges on the diesel-CNG dual fuel vehicle.
