GRP pipes have been in use around the world since the late 1940s. They were initially used for raw water transport but have since been widely used in an array of applications from raw water to potable water, flood mitigation and surface water catchments, to sewage and jacking applications, and in desalination and other water or wastewater treatment projects. It is also used in industrial applications in Oil & Gas and other industrial settings where reliability and low maintenance is of utmost importance. The use of these pipes has been on the rise in more recent times due primarily to the need for more economical, durable and corrosive resistant material.
This presentation will includes on the design for the Glass Reinforced Polymer (GRP) pipes physical and mechanical properties of the pipes and the comparison of the pipes to other pipe materials and project costs using value engineering in designing the optimum sewage and water transport networks in the Malaysian context.
Biodata Speaker:
Dr. Hassan Assaee received his Ph.D. in Structural and Aerospace Engineering with a focus on Composite Materials from Amirkabir University of Technology in 2008. He completed a comprehensive study on buckling and post-buckling behavior of composite structures during his study. In 2004 he joined FARASSAN® and established the sales engineering department.  Farassan is a pioneer and one of the leading manufacturer of GRP pipes in the world. The company has more than 10,000 kilometers of pipes manufactured and installed in Iran and seventeen other countries in Asia and Europe. Dr. Assaee has managed the design and installation of numerous GRP pipeline industrial projects in Iran and the Middle East in the past few years. He and his colleagues at FARATEC, the technology development subsidiary of FARASSAN, have performed a comprehensive study on design and performance of FRP pipes in harsh conditions. He has published 52 scientific papers on composite materials in refereed journals and conference proceedings and is a regular speaker at international conferences on the subject.
